Pushing the UK Government to start planning for a New Ireland

SDLP Leader Claire Hanna MP has urged both the UK and Irish Governments to begin meaningful planning for constitutional change, emphasising that preparation is essential.

Speaking during Prime Ministers Questions in Westminster this week, she challenged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to engage constructively with the ongoing discussion about the island's future. Claire also referenced a recent Westminster event she hosted with journalists Fintan O'Toole and Sam McBride, which reinforced the need for early, credible preparation to avoid the mistakes experienced as a result of Brexit.

The SDLP will continue leading discussions on the island's future and encouraging both governments to commence preparations for constitutional change.
